| Description: |
This fun and intensely interactive performance is based directly on the songs from the Aunty Wendy’s Mob CDs - featuring songs with an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective, portraying experiences that all children can relate to. All children in the audience become part of Aunty Wendy’s Mob and participate in song, dance, language and drama experiences that present contemporary, urban images and ideas about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Wendy shares her experience as a non-Aboriginal teacher to demonstrate how all teachers can incorporate an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective into the learning environment. 'Aunty is a general term used in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community as a sign of acceptance and respect. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children have been acknowledging Wendy as Aunty since the early ‘90’s and is how Wendy is known in many communities around NSW.’ Delma Davison - State President, NSW Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Early Childhood Sector Advisory Group Inc.
